Stage 5 - Thursday
Ravenna - Brisighella 🌧
57kms
Late start today so we could visit some of the Ravenna mosaics. They are World Heritage protected and the few we saw were spectacular. More blatant plagiarism for your reading pleasure below.
Ravenna is a city in Emilia-Romagna, Italy. It's known for the colorful mosaics adorning many of its central buildings, like the octagonal Basilica di San Vitale, the 6th-century Basilica di Sant'Apollinare Nuovo and the cross-shaped Mausoleo di Galla Placidia. North of the center, the Mausoleo di Teodorico built in the 6th century for King Theodoric the Great, is a Gothic, circular stone tomb with a monolithic dome.
The ride, though shorter, was tough but beautiful. Riding for 5 days straight has not only tested our physical fitness but our mental stamina as well. We were rewarded with our first hint of Tuscany today.
Hardly any road riding but it was raining for about 30/35kms and was surprisingly enjoyable. However, the hills (pretty much continuous after Faenza - the last 12kms) were a killer! Lee struggled but Dave was there every step of the way encouraging her and she made it! She was rode up every single one.
Our arrival at the Hotel La Meridiana was a relief and the hot shower, Spritz and the offer of a hot, home cooked, meal without having to venture out into the pouring rain was too good to refuse!
Tomorrow we cycle for Firenze!
La Cena

Tagliatelle Al Ragu

Arrivederci 💋
